Happy Saturday friends!
I was sitting in the pasture this past weekend and watching the horses. I had my sketchbook and I wrote a bit but just didn’t feel like sketching. Instead, with Sweetness standing by my side, I stared off into farmy space and let my mind wander:
I wonder what Sweetness is thinking?
Huh, that was a duck. I hardly ever see ducks here.
I wonder if Tori knows it’s her birthday? (Tori is a Leap Year baby, her birthday is February 29th!) I wonder if she’d remember her mom if she met her again? Of course she would right?
And on and on.
My flippy brain kept telling me to, “DO something! At least draw!” But I didn’t. I sat. And let myself be. It was beautiful.
I actually didn’t feel bored. I was…content.
Remember being a kid and feeling bored? I hated it. My mom would give us the choice to go outside or clean inside. So outside we’d go to kick a rock, find a friend, watch a bug, climb a tree, roll down a hill, run as fast you could down the street, skate, skate, skate. No phone. No internet. We didn’t even have tv from 8-14 years old!
Life goes so fast now and there is always so much to do that just sitting still and soaking up time and views is a luxury. It’s not boring. It’s beautiful.
I’m writing this on Wednesday morning because I’m leaving tomorrow to go visit my brother in Pittsburgh for the weekend! I finally get to meet Princess Penelope!

Last week I posted this little sketch and then forgot to tell you all the most important part!
I’ve been thinking about starting a community garden of some sort for a few years now, and it’s finally time! If you’d like to be a part of our first meeting where we walk the land and talk about ideas, please text me! 720-635-7015 We have the land, we have a pond to water from, we have a tractor, and we have the compost! Now it’s time to come together and co-create a kind, inclusive garden community. This is a start from scratch project! We will be meeting next weekend, probably Sunday, March 16th. Still working on a time. I have created a group on Nextdoor where we can all chat too. Looking forward to playing in the dirt together!

WEEKLY ILLUSTRATIONS
Too much rushing around for work, farm, and getting ready to head to my brother’s bright and early Thursday morning and I didn’t get time to add color to any of my sketches this week, darn!
This was a funny one ππ½ I was using a recent selfie of me and Sweetness and it just didn’t want to turn into me LOL. Well okay then, be someone else!
GREAT STUFF TO READ
If you’re someone who wonders why there are those of us who still wear masks out in public, read this.
And one more by Beckett Johnson:You Don’t Just Live in a Place, it Lives in You. Love isn’t just about people. Some places claim you before you even realize it. Here’s why belonging is an act of love—and how to find it where you are.
His article made me think about the fire and learning to love the farm. It’s been a journey for me. I fell in love with our Colorado farm immediately, I could feel the land and knew I was supposed to be there.
Moving here had many more layers. I could feel the land here too. But then there was also Mom dying. My family. All the parts of the move. We made the decision to do it but part of our hearts are still on the Colorado farm with those amazing views and friends:
The beauty here is different, softer with all the trees and water and humidity.
So, one of the gifts of the fire is missing my NC farm. We are in a rental house just down the street and we are at the farm multiple times a day but it’s not the same as living there. I’m really looking forward to getting back home. And it will be fun? Interesting? Good. Yes, good. Good to rethink what goes where and does it make sense for that closet to hold x? My brain likes to see things where they belong. Our bonus room has been holding a million boxes of stuff that we mostly haven’t gotten into over the past 3 years, it’s all coming out and going into the storage pods now. Much of it will be sold or given away, some will be put in our actual storage rooms in the attic eaves. The bonus room will turn into a guest room finally! My brother and Nic and Penelope can stay more comfortably! Yippee!
