Baby Dancer can jump HIGH up on Brad's back this week! (newsletter)

Apr 30, 2022

Friday morning during chores, Brad quietly said, "Julia." I looked over and found this!

This is her first time on someone's back :-) She's been jumping into my lap for a week now and of course into the bottom of that red hay feeder in the background, but she's upped her game! Earlier I had caught Dancer (she's 21 days old) checking out his tools as he was preparing to tweak their barn door:

But lacking thumbs to help she thought cheering him on by standing on his head would be best:

Never a dull moment... :-) Speaking of, go watch what Sweetness the mini donkey does at feeding time here! Singing the song of his people ;-)

If you remember awhile back I told you about switching rooms with ManChild. He had this awesome room (with attached bath) at the front of the house with a view of the pond (not that he ever saw it, the blinds were always closed—maybe MoleChild would have been a better name for him.) We realized that we could use this room as my office and neurofeedback room if Brad just added a front door:

Engineer hubby to the rescue! We are waiting for our matching hardware to arrive, so the front doors look similar. And I will paint the new one black to match the old one that goes into our home. But never fear, I will paint something interesting (probably flowers) on the work door so clients know where to go.

Work in progress! Next week I'll take pics for the big reveal!

If you have ideas on a different color for those front doors, send me an email! I'm open to suggestions! The trick is for it to go well with the grey exterior AND the new pink interior of my office since the door will be open for the most part:

Below is a better representation of the color, kind of a ballet slipper pink. I'm in LOVE with it! Those lights never did much for me before (they came with the house) but I love them with the new pink walls.

Last week was ManChild's spring break. When we went to visit my parents the week before my Dad had given him a haircut, starting the process of creating this very particular hair style that ManChild had seen and really wanted. Being the white folk that we are, we don't always get black hair quite right at the beginning but we learn as we go. ManChild and Dad realized that their line across the side of his head was MUCH wider, but luckily his hair grows quickly. It's already grown out enough to shave the sides and back and try the line again. Turns out we need either a different electric trimmer or maybe a straight razor.

Since dad had already cleaned up the sides, I thought it was time to start locs. Locs can be created in a couple different ways and the simplest to me was starting with twists. Wash hair, section it into tiny squares, use product to comb out the small area, hook the comb into the base of the hair square and twist. I had watched some videos and jumped in:

Our goal is to get to this super cool style eventually:

OMG. Just LOVE his hair!

My mom ended up in the hospital last weekend with a fever and weakness. This is the second time in a couple of months. They did a bunch of tests but the only thing they could find was she had the flu. Not sure how that could have happened as she doesn't go anywhere without a mask and hardly anywhere in general. After two nights in the hospital they released her and she was happy to be back home again. I took some pics of her yard to cheer her up. Have you ever noticed that iris smell like jelly beans?

If you zoom in you can see the pink peonies in front are getting ready to burst open!

For those of you who are new and wondering why a flu was a worry, my Mom has stage 4 cancer. If you are the praying sort, the sending healing energy and Reiki sort, or thinking good thoughts sort, please do so for her and for my dad too as he is her primary caregiver.

On Monday we had the vet out to disbud our two baby goats. You can read about the how and why here. It went very smoothly. Here's little Galaxy sleeping off the sedation while we finish up. Dancer did great too!

Speaking of baby goats, I decided to see if I could speed up the process of a few of my girls going into heat by putting them in the buck's pasture and leaving my two bucks in their nighttime pen. Causing some smashy face lol. I can practically see the girls rolling their eyes:

I really want to have some September babies! We'll see. Nigerian Dwarf goats go into heat every 17-21 days but their strongest heat is in the fall.

ODDS and ENDS:

Friday afternoon I was out walking Lucy in the forest and we scared a bird out of hiding. A tiny brown bird that after some research, I believe is a wren. Lucy started sniffing around, stopped and stuffed her head into something. I pulled her away and looked and there on the ground was a nest with a side entrance! How cool is that?

Our bonus room is still just a big room full of boxes. I was in looking for some lamps (which I still haven't found) and started to step into an empty spot on the floor when something caught my eye. I didn't have my glasses on so at first I thought it was a leaf. It was NOT a leaf:

Good God. How in the world did a BAT get into our house? And what killed it? The bonus room is a finished space! I'm super thankful that we always leave the door closed! Poor little thing. Interesting to see its anatomy though.

Found a little black snake was out sunning itself. I heard someone call snakes a "nope rope" this week, haaaaa! Black snakes eat mice, so I'm fine with them here!

A Common Five-lined Skink survived its night in an empty bucket (how did it get in there?) and was released back to the forest. Such a pretty blue tail!

Lucy loves to lay between my two body pillows as much as I do!

And finally, some memes that made me laugh this week:

And this one gave me the giggles for an inappropriate amount of time:

Laughing at this one because it's so very true ;-) :

If you're looking for more pics and snippets of stories, I'm on Facebook too :-)
