“We are on the move.”

 Happy Saturday friends!

Well, I thanked the trees for being here and protecting us, and left a heart rock at the base of each and a few hours later I was out walking I Love Lucy when I noticed her doing this little digging thing (she’s not a digger) and then deeply sniffing under the trees. She did it 4 times with 4 different trees. That was odd, something she’d never done. So, I tuned into the trees and immediately heard: “We are on the move.”

Really??

They went on to say that they will indeed stay on the farm and they (their spirits) are migrating to other trees nearby. 

Well for heaven’s sake! I never even thought that was a thing. Who knew. I also found out that our huge Japanese Maple is the grounding tree for the rest!

On WednesdayMonkey Tree Service came out at 7:30am and began the process of removing 19 trees. At first I was teary but I felt into it and…it was okay. Our tree spirits were all out and safe. Whew.

The day in pictures:

The tops of the pines were as big as a full sized tree. I had no idea they were that big way up there (they were about 80—100 feet tall)

They used the crane for the pines that were up close to the house. They cut off the top and swung it into the open area and laid it down. 

I think the pic below shows how big our trees really were!

They used a cherry picker to put the cutting guy up in some of the trees. Maybe he was tired from all the climbing?

We went out to wander around when the workers were having lunch. Apparently this is how you’re supposed to store your chainsaws LOL 

My family came to watch:

They did a great job cleaning up as they went, I give these guys 5 stars! They had some high powered blowers and 3 big Bobcats with grapples—basically a big scoop on the front with claws on top that could pick up the trunks and limbs and moved them. I rarely saw them shoving tree branches into the chipper, mostly they used the Bobcats to do it: scoop, grab, drive to the chipper and stuff them in. Of course the chippers were self feeding, they just sucked everything in. All the wood chips (soooo many dump truck loads) went into several giant piles around the property. We will have wood chips forever and ever :-)

Thursday morning:

Check out our Japanese Maple! The lower third is a different color! Maybe because it was protected by the oak and maple leaves that were in front of it? I don’t know yet. Interesting. Giving the maple a lot of extra water to help it cope with the sun it’s suddenly getting. At least it’s very old and the top of it has been used to getting a lot of sun. 

The weather is cooling and we have a lot of plans for our front yard now!
