The Polar Bear almost had herself a Scooby Snack!

Nov 11, 2023

Good morning and happy Saturday friends!

The Polar Bear almost had herself a fuzzy little Scooby snack this week but the crisis was adverted at the last minute. Jeez. The farm next door has a lovely woman who brings her little Papillion to the barn when she mucks stalls. She's a fiery ball of fluff. Maybe 10 pounds, probably much less. Cute as pie though and has her long white tail dyed pink and purple. Her name is Snow. She loves people but thinks that the barn is hers. Uh-oh.

The Polar Bear also thinks the barn is hers.

I was heading into the house after chores when I heard Snow alarm bark. I looked over and the Polar Bear was standing at the edge of the barn. I could see Snow's silhouette way back inside the barn. I called the Polar Bear to me. Nothing. Sigh.

Snow decided to up her game, barked, and ran toward Polar Bear—who raised her tail to a stiff flag, dropped her head, and went to her toes, ready to attack. Oh daaaaaaammit.

Snow, thinking she was boss, charged up and went nose to nose with the Polar Bear. Jesus. Tiny dogs are freaking fearless. The Polar Bear was not amused. She went into stalk mode and when Snow yipped in fright, she started chasing her. Gawwwwwwwd.

Snow's human mom, also little, also fearless, grabbed the Polar Bear and stopped the whole thing. Whew. She picked up Snow and I held my dog's collar while she looked up at Snow with glee in her eyes, slightly drooly.

Snow looked annoyed by the whole thing, "I could have taken that giant white floof if you had just given me a chance!"

FYI, I did not stop to take any photos lol, and since I didn't, I drew that just for you!

MEMORIES:

Speaking of the Polar Bear, this event, paired with a coyote killing one of our sheep in the daytime, was what put us on the hunt for a pair of livestock guardian dogs in the first place. So you know, Onya was our elder Border Collie and the Dumpling was I Love Lucy as a puppy. She was fat as a breast fed baby ๐Ÿ˜‚

And other than the Polar Bear chasing and killing squirrels and prairie dogs and occasionally stalking and trying to kill guineas and chickens (how did I always get there just in time?!) we, and our livestock, were safe from then on.

I found the set below from November 2016, the year we moved into our Colorado ranch. The chestnut (red) horse is Celita (now owned by a friend), the grey is Raynie before she went so white, the black is an Arab named Midknight who was owned by the sister who gave me Wynter, and finally little Shilo—a Gypsy Vanner baby. It took Brad some time to run an electric line across the tops of 15 acres of fencing and this was the day when the big west pasture was finally open to the horses. They took off like a shot as soon as they entered and ran multiple laps around—always led by Celita who was an off-the-track Thoroughbred.

THE RANCH:

Check out this sweet little red fox hanging out at our pond! It was fluffy and looked healthy. Guessing it was young by its reaction (curiosity) to the Polar Bear who was out guarding the goats. The Polar Bear went from barking at it to complete stealth mode as it wandered over to take a look through the fence at her. When she rushed the fence in a roaring flurry of fangs and fur, the little fox took off like a shot. We've not seen it since. Which is good. It learned its lesson, don't mess with the Scary Huge White Floof!

Little Marvel Meow Meow continues to grace us with her presence most days:

And once she's done rubbing up against me, she will often lie down and take a rest or a bath:

Jaffee continues to do great here and is really fitting in nicely. He and Little Man continue to fuss in jealousy over the humans but just as often I will look out and find them playing together, yay!

This week he made me laugh when he stepped up into the golf cart when I stopped it to unload hay:

Just a pretty view. B-Rad's boss from 24 years ago gave us this birdbath as a wedding present โค๏ธ

MEMES:

Not really a meme but a friend posted this on facebook and it made me laugh:

Oh man, my brother and I laughed and laughed over this one! My dad has always been into guns ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

I scored just 1 point—I've never showed a goat, you?:
