Happy, Healthy Balance

Sep 29, 2020

It seems I think and journal about perfectionism fairly often and here I go again!

I recently discovered that the freebie I offered here wasn't perfect. Do you see it? I didn't see it until a few days ago:

It should be "clients." I missed the "N" Ugh. So, I beat myself up over it for a few days, not walking my talk! Last week I had my monthly phone session with my coach and brought it up to her and she laughed and said, "Ha! I saw that! Then I decided it was perfectly imperfect and hung it anyway!" This is why Sara is so awesome!

At the end of the week, I put out my weekly ranch YouTube video. I had expected it to be a vertical video that would fill my phone screen. Inexplicably, it stayed tiny on my phone screen! Arrrrrgh! Another perfectionism moment. I decided that I would let it be, reminding myself of my favorite quote:

It looks great on a computer, go watch it here!

Somewhere along the way we got the idea that perfect is something that we should strive for. A great way to create loads of anxiety in our lives isn't it?

For awhile I told myself whatever I was working on was, "good enough." I recently realized that that term just feels like a let down, my mind/body/soul is not loving the way that feels. Time for a reframe!

Now I ask myself, "It's not perfect because nothing ever is and that's normal. Does this strike a happy, healthy balance in my heart?" I take a second to get quiet and hear the answer. I'm thinking about my 13 year old son too, how to model and teach "happy, healthy balance."

A final example of my old pattern of perfectionism rearing it's head: we've had 2 realtors now who have been invited out to the ranch to give us their opinion of what they think our place is worth. (If you are new here, we are thinking about moving the farm from CO to NC to be closer to family! If you are a client and this is news to you, we can continue coaching with your favorite horses or goats via Zoom :-)) Both realtors have said, "Don't worry about emptying out the garage or straightening the barns, it's a farm and people look past that kind of stuff."

OH MY GOD!!!!!!! ARE YOU CRAZY?!?!?! It MUST be perfect!

I have to admit, this is really a hard one! Searching hard for my happy, healthy balance...

Serenity now!!! :-)

Love to all from the Mother Ranch,

Julia
