Walking my talk...sometimes :-)

I'm sitting in my parent's screened in porch in North Carolina listening to the sound of the rain in the trees.

Isn't their backyard pretty! Dad built that potting shed for mom.

Give me your sandwich!

When I walked outside and saw the rain this morning I was flooded with emotions, the biggest one being gratitude for the rain and in the next moment feeling so much sorrow for my home state of Colorado and the whole western half of the country that so desperately needs this rain to put an end to the ongoing fires.

When I talked to my husband and son yesterday, they told me the smoke was back with a vengeance and they were wearing N95 masks outside again—our normal view of the Rocky Mountains is obstructed by smoke and the air quality is back in the red zone again. There is this underlying worry that I don't let myself actively focus on—it's like a bunch of browser tabs being open and taking up space—it's still worry in my subconscious.

Lately it's been hard to walk my talk, you know? With the pandemic, the fires, the US election looming, and a health scare within my NC family, I find myself wanting to hole up in my closet with a bottle of wine—and I don't drink. In a recent talk with my own coach, I said, "I feel like my entire torso is made of concrete." Lots of stuff coming in, no emotions going out. Sigh.

So, when I felt and saw the rain this morning, the tears came welling up, and I had a brave moment and let them come out.

And, as always, they didn't kill me. My day has been happier since. A few browser tabs were able to close after that.

We could all use some happy right about now, don't you think?
