How Neurofeedback Improves Sleep & the Joy of Parenting Teens đŸ˜¬

Aug 08, 2023

You guys know how much I love my kid. But jeez, ManChild is hitting 16 hard right now. Hard enough to screw up my sleep. It seems I can't do much right. Either I'm doing it wrong or saying it wrong and my God does that get old fast. (And let me stop to say, I read this to ManChild and asked for permission to post. As he was in an "up" he agreed with a grin.)

And of course there is the entitlement. So. Much. Fun.

Yesterday he told me he thinks he's ProLife now. Oh ho, we all know how I feel about that don't we?!
Maybe he really thinks it or maybe it's just a button pushing thing so I just said, "Well, everyone gets to have their opinion." and I let B-Rad field that conversation. It's good to know when to pass it to someone else, yes? It eventually led to ManChild basically saying that the baby was of the utmost importance, not the mother. Ever.

And no, I'm not saying he has to be ProChoice but respect for women would be nice.

I've been watching the train wreck of high school ramping up. He still likes it but came home during his 9th grade year with some horror stories about our teenage boys. How many of them call girls, including girlfriends a "ho."

Isn't that lovely.

How many of them are in-your-face homophobic. Apparently he doesn't see or hear stuff about race but wow, the sexism is fierce. And the homophobia is black or white: you either hate them all, no questions asked or you are them.

How do we raise thinking, feeling human males when it's effing lord of the flies in the public school systems?

Needless to say I was having somewhere between restless and no sleep this week. Yuck. Last night I did a neurofeedback session and slept so hard afterwards. When my alarm went off I was shocked (I usually wake up before that.) I needed that neurofeedback to reset my sleep!

The other pieces that fell into place today after my session was thinking about how Nichole (B-Rad's eldest) came home from college for a little visit (back in the early 2000s) and told us that she didn't believe the moon landing was real.

I don't think I've ever seen B-Rad come unglued so quickly. His father worked for GE as a professional safety engineer and NASA had a contract with GE to bring his dad in to work on the Apollo program. B-Rad grew up with all things space. He was 10 when the moon landing happened. It was a big deal in his family.

But you know, Nichole did become a human with a fully functioning brain. ManChild will too.

But in the meantime, neurofeedback to the rescue! By lessening the anger, depression, and anxiety around having a no-prefrontal-cortex-teen, neurofeedback helps me sleep deeply—which then gives me more capacity to continue helping to shape a kind human being.

So, if you're struggling with sleep because you have teens that are giving you a run for your money and/or because of anxiety, depression, PTSD, etc, give me a call or text (720-635-7015) to set up your first neurofeedback session! First one is half off, just $35!

Pricing:

30 minute session is $60
45 minute session is $70
