Watercolor Sketch—Oat Grass at the NC Coast

Apr 19, 2020

Watercolor, 6x9

I've joined a facebook group called World Watercolor Group and they have a daily prompt for a watercolor sketch. It's a great way to get out of the grip of perfectionism. A sketch is never meant to be perfect right? Today's was "grass" and just now as I write this I realized I could have gone a completely different way. Being in Colorado we have all kinds of grass being offered in pot shops around the state lol.

I chose Oat Grass, which is what grows on the dunes at the beaches in North Carolina. I lived in NC for 20 years and there are some fond memories of staying at the beach with my family—walking down the path through the dunes, oat grass swaying in the breeze above our heads.

Today I'm really missing my family, who are back in NC and holed up like we all are, none of us able to visit each other. I sometimes consider it, seeing the empty plane pictures and hearing the stories of people flying first class and no one else on the plane. Wouldn't that be fun! But no, we will all stay put and hope this virus dies out soon.

Love to all from the Mother Ranch,

Julia
