Ranch life with the Latin lover

Jul 09, 2020

I'm reading Running with Sherman by Christopher McDougall. His Born to Run book kept me going during the early part of a particularly gnarly phase of my life. Running with Sherman is giving me the giggles (Brad's always a fan of midnight giggles from me, oops, sorry!)

Sherman is a mini donkey who Christopher rescues for his daughters. I'm only 3 chapters in and have run across so many great passages but this one in particular was so descriptive:

Up close, donkeys just ooze charisma. Yes, they look ridiculous with those stubby bodies and Bugs Bunny ears, but that just makes their Latin lover eyes all the more heartwarming. While we were talking (a friend's donkey) stood quietly, holding our gaze as if she genuinely, soulfully, wanted to connect.

And if you've ever met our Sweetness, you know about the Latin lover eyes. Donkeys shed out later than horses. From fall to early summer they have long, thick eyebrows but by late June it's almost gone. Sweetness's eyes are finally visible and ohhhhh man, I just want to sit at his feet and gaze into them. He's such a gentle soul that he will totally stand there with you and gaze right back.

Love to all from the Mother Ranch,

Julia
