Watercolor, 9x12, sold
Ike the Border Collie came to me as a retired working dog. We had been dogsitting for a friend and my son fell in love with him, easy to do with Ike. We asked our friend if she would consider allowing Ike to live with us and with a little cajoling, she agreed :-) Like us, she could see that my son and Ike needed each other.
He was already an old man by the time he became ours but still had a lot of spunk left in him. I remember when he was younger and how he would jump straight up and down on his back feet. My friend remembers when he was even younger and those jumps would leave him looking her right in the eye! What a nut—he was like Tigger from Winnie the Pooh!
He's been gone a few years now but will always remain in our hearts. If you want to adopt a great dog, find yourself a Border Collie group where the members have working sheepdogs. The retired dogs are well trained and generally enjoy the couch and your warm bed when they aren't out chasing balls :-)
Love to all from the Mother Ranch,
Julia
