We all know, you can't judge a book by it's cover and yet what do we do all the time?? Argh. When I first saw our Colorado ranch from the street, I thought, "Well, I don't know..." I had no idea how extraordinary it was until we drove down the 1/4 mile driveway and stepped out of the car!
We know this, but we do it anyway. This is our new farm in NC (no, as of this writing, we haven't sold our Colorado place so we have a contingent offer in NC.) It's nice in the front, a grey house in the woods:
The back of the house has large expanses of deck, a pergola over the master bedroom deck (left), and a screened in porch. We're thinking of a pool over to the left of that patio!
The pergola off the master:
The drive up to the house, that pasture on the left and pond on the right are ours:
Apparently it's stocked! Grandpa can't wait to teach Michael to fish!
This is one of two pastures with 2 restored 1920s tobacco barns:
The kitchen is nice and bright with a huge, walk in pantry!
It's funny the things we get excited about isn't it? :-) I'm already thinking about adding counters/cupboards for the lowers and open shelving on top maybe? What do you think?
Michael's bedroom is a great size (that's a king sized bed!) and has it's very own bathroom! He's over the moon :-) (Sellers will have that carpet stretched.)
Soooo...let's discuss closets, shall we? I have a TON of closets in my Colorado house. If I were my mom or my brother, they'd be filled with clothes. Somehow the clothes-horse gene skipped me. This is my closet right now in the Colorado house. I live and work on a ranch so I wear tshirts, jeans, and sweatshirts. I do have another closet with coats but this is me basically. Imagine my surprise when...
...I walked into this closet in the NC house!
This is the other side of it! OMG! And this is just HERS! There is a smaller walk in that's his!
Now, I realize this is a dream come true for many of you lol but I thought, "Wow! The 3 of us together don't own that many clothes!" Or shoes! Unless muck boots count as shoes?
Brad and I will share this closet and turn the "his" closet into a main floor laundry room that will have doors to both the master (happy dance!) and the hall.
Michael showing off what my realtor calls, "The party shower." Haaaaa!!!
The owner's bathroom. Party shower to the left, another vanity behind me to the right.
The closet and shower were amazing but my heart skipped a beat over the tub :-) I realize it's all the rage to just have a huge shower but I really wanted a big tub! This bath has the best of both!
Brad and I are crazy excited about this area to the left of the ovens! It's a wine bar or, in Brad's world, a coffee/wine/beer bar! He's upgrading to a fancy schmancy espresso maker for the new house that will be plumbed in and is all toothy smiles and squinchy happy eyes about it :-)
I'm not a coffee drinker (gasp! or wine Gasp! or beer GASP!!!!!) my excitement is over having him out of the flow of the kitchen and over in his own special area where I don't have to scooch him out of the way to get a fork or a cup—because espresso making is ART and you can't rush art people.
The dining room could actually stretch all the way over to the front door if needed and someday, when everyone is vaccinated, it will be needed! Those are 8, count them EIGHT, floor to ceiling casement windows–SO pretty!
Ok, enough of that! In other news, I've been training my two horses and mini donkey to load into the trailer in preparation for the big haul across the country. You can see our first session here!
This little girl turned 1 on March 31st! Do you remember Denali giving birth to Jake, Marbles, and Sparkles? Everyone told me I was gushing about this girl but I had forgotten until I revisited the video, lol, yes there was much exclaiming by me :-) I'm working on a shorter version of her birth that will be out soon–pretty much because I miss baby goats so much that I have to watch old footage!
Happy Birthday Miss Marbles!
A blast from the past, I stumbled across my old channel, only used to post 2 whole videos to family:
Check out baby Michael trying to pull my socks on, he was maybe...4?
And, the funniest video I've ever made, my little guy Sammie, and his new doggie boots!
Right now I'm reading The Soul of Autism–Looking Beyond Labels to Unveil Spiritual Secrets of the Heart Savants
And listening on Audible to Caitlin Moran read her book More than a Woman, which is both hysterically funny and thought provoking. Read/listen to it and tell me what you think!
Love to all from the Mother Ranch,
Julia
