What Isn't Fair Right Now?

I have this deck of cards, the Wordsmith Deck, that helps me get going when I'm feeling stuck.

Today's prompt was, "What isn't fair right now?"

Well, if that isn't timely.

It feels unfair that we are being told, left and right (haha pun intended), that we are more polarized than ever. It feels like everyone is against us and we are an island, all alone.

And yet...

When I talk to family, friends, neurofeedback or coaching clients that come to see me, we are all struggling with the same things: anxiety over covid, the US election, climate change, fires in the western half of the US, hurricanes in the eastern half—which is all heaped on top of normal life: feeling heard, depression, general anxiety, our kids, jobs, school, money, a past that is holding us back in some way, illness, our aging parents...you know, life—when all these things come up, that polarized feeling goes away.

We're all still here, needing the same connection we've always needed but somehow feeling that others don't also want the same thing.

I was talking to a friend today, she's taken Facebook off her phone. I've done it a few times myself, and like her, find my life to be infinitely happier. I wonder what would happen to all of us if we stopped watching the ultra liberal or ultra conservative news shows, took social media off our phones, and went outside to talk to our neighbors? You know, if you keep some distance, you don't even have to wear a mask!

I bet we would find more in common if we took the time to listen.

We are all, both sides, being told what the other side thinks of us, instead of going out into the sunshine, and talking about it with real human beings.
